Copilot Form Fill Assistance is an AI-powered feature in Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Model-driven apps)
that helps users fill in data fields on forms by suggesting relevant values based on:

  • Clipboard content
  • Previously entered data
  • Uploaded files or images (PDFs, Word docs, images)
  • Email content

It aims to save time and reduce data entry errors by offering smart suggestions for each form field.

Advantages

  • Reduces time spent typing repetitive or similar data
  • Understands what you’re working on using clipboard, recent activity, or file content
  • Ensures consistency in data entry
  • You can choose to accept or reject each suggestion
  • Ideal for customer service agents and salespeople entering leads, cases, or contacts

Disadvantages

  • Works only with supported fields (text, choice, number, date); doesn’t support file/image upload fields
  • Won’t work with fields protected by column-level security
  • Some users may find the suggestions intrusive or not relevant
  • Under heavy load, suggestions may take longer or not appear temporarily
  • File/image support and Smart Paste are in preview and may evolve or break temporarily

How to Enable Copilot Form Fill Assistance in D365 CRM

  • Environment-Level Configuration (Admin Step)
    • Go to Power Platform Admin Center
    • Navigate to your environment → Settings → Product → Features
    • Find Copilot or AI Form Fill Assistance
    • Turn it ON and choose:
      • All users
      • Specific security roles
      • Or disable completely
  • Enable at Field Level (Maker Step)
    • Go to Power Apps Maker Portal
    • Select your Dataverse table (e.g., Lead, Case, Contact)
    • Click on the Column (Field) you want to support Copilot
    • In the field’s properties, toggle on “Allow form fill assistance”
  • Enable Preview Features (Optional but powerful)
  • For clipboard and file support:
    • Go to Settings → Product → Copilot Features
    • Enable:
      • Smart Paste
      • File/Image Support

How to Use It in CRM Forms

Basic Usage

  • Open a form in CRM (e.g., Lead, Opportunity)
  • Copilot will analyze context and show suggestions under empty fields
  • You can:
    • Click Accept next to the suggestion
    • Use the Accept All option to populate all fields at once
    • Or Dismiss the suggestions

Smart Paste

  • Copy content (e.g., name, email, company info from an email)
  • In the form, click the Smart Paste icon
  • Copilot analyzes clipboard and fills relevant fields

File/Image Upload

  • Drag and drop a file or image (e.g., a business card, PDF form)
  • Copilot reads the file and fills in matching form fields

Supported formats: .docx, .pdf, .jpg, .png, .eml, .msg, etc.

Customization Options

  • Decide which fields can show AI suggestions
  • Limit to specific security roles
  • Use company templates or formats to train file-based suggestions (currently limited to known layouts)
  • Completely turn off suggestions for specific forms or views if not useful

Data Privacy & Control

  • No data is stored until the user explicitly accepts a suggestion
  • Suggestions come with tooltips or citations showing where the info was derived (e.g., “From clipboard” or “From uploaded file”)
