Analysing Performance Data to Improve Game Strategies

The Challenge: 

For players or teams representing their nation on a global stage, excelling and winning medals is crucial for national pride. Historically, numerous sporting events have taken place, with the Olympics serving as the premier event where teams from around the world compete. Therefore, analyzing the performance of each team or player from different nations is essential to refine game strategies and address weaker areas. 

The Solution: 

To enable informed decision-making, we created a Power BI report using publicly available data. This report can be highly beneficial to national authorities, allowing them to evaluate their country's performance in various sports and identify strengths and weaknesses. It helps them focus on improving athletes' overall performance when competing internationally.   

By providing detailed insights, the report aids officials in taking appropriate actions and allocating resources effectively to enhance competitiveness. Additionally, the report offers a broader perspective by examining historical trends, helping officials understand how national and individual performances have evolved over time and plan strategies for future sporting events.  

This report addresses several critical queries essential for individual as well as team’s performance:  

• How many participants are there year-wise and season-wise? 
• How does the number of participants compare across different countries? 
• What is the gender distribution of participants over the years? 
• What are the demographics and physique details of participants, including age and top countries by participation? 
• How are medals distributed by gender and sport? 
• What is the trend of medal distribution over the years? 
• How many medals have different countries won, and what are their global rankings? 
• What is the average age of participants and the distribution of medals by gender? 
• Who are the top 10 countries, sports, and participants of all time based on medals? 

The Extra Mile: 

We incorporated granular information using drill-through and detailed pages with custom visuals, featuring multiple drill-down layers for slicing and dicing the displayed data. Additionally, we categorized all players into different age groups to provide a comprehensive view of total participation and their performance.
